how can counselling help?

People often come to counselling when something is stuck in their life or when they have difficult experiences they want to talk about.  Or they might not know quite what is wrong but need somewhere to talk about the stuff that doesn’t feel OK.

Counselling allows you an accepting, non-judgemental space to talk about, process and explore any of this. It is different for everyone, and I take my lead from you, helping you to find your own way through. We start with where you are just now and go at your pace, paying attention to what is most alive to you in the moment, taking it step by step.

Often, we understandably want answers or strategies to deal with our problems. I don’t have pre-prepared answers or off-the-shelf solutions, but I can help you to discover your own answers or strategies you find helpful.

Often, though, by paying attention to the things we don’t quite understand, or that aren’t quite sitting right for us, we can discover unexpected connections. Then we might move past what we already know, and feel differently about the things that have been troubling us. This can be a creative process. I believe this is where therapy can be at its most powerful and personal.

You might want the stable space of a counselling room to talk about these things. Or you might want to be outdoors, with the natural world as part of the conversation.

By providing an environment where you feel safe enough to explore the things you aren’t sure of, or feel more vulnerable about, counselling can help you to process these things and find ways of dealing with life that make sense to you.
